Offset Carbon

Offset Carbon

Individuals and organizations can offset their carbon emissions and environmental impact by financing family planning services and thereby help to bring about a sustainable world for future generations to enjoy.

The average cost per tonne of offsetting carbon emissions through the provision of family planning services is £5 (US $8 or €7). The actual cost varies across the projects that we support.

Individuals

Car

An average European Union resident is responsible for emitting almost nine tonnes of carbon annually, so a €64 donation offsets a European Union resident’s emissions for one year. United States average annual emissions per person are approximately 17 tonnes, so for a United States resident US $140 offsets one year's worth of emissions. The amounts for Canadian and Australian residents are about the same.

United Nations, World Bank, etc. figures provide data only for in-country emissions. The United States, the United Kingdom and many other countries are net importers of large amounts of manufactured goods that have embedded carbon — we therefore use figures higher than the official ones.

Some people prefer to offset emissions from certain activities. The Eden Project’s Carbon Footprint Calculator provides many helpful examples. You also can use our own guide to help you determine the amount of your offset.

We will provide a certificate indicating the amount of your offset.

Organizations

Many organisations across the globe calculate and monitor their own carbon footprint regularly. Responsible organisations reduce their emissions and negative environmental impacts to the minimum possible and offset the remainder — this is just good economic, environmental and social behaviour.

PopOffsets allows organisations to offset with no environmental consequences, unlike every other offset mechanism of which we know.
